What is a Fannie Mae DUS® Lender?

DUS is the cornerstone of Fannie Mae’s multifamily business. Under DUS, approved mortgage lenders share the risk of the loans they sell to Fannie Mae. The unique DUS model leverages private capital to finance multifamily housing in communities throughout America. Fannie Mae approved mortgage lenders must adhere to rigorous credit and underwriting standards and submit to Fannie Mae’s ongoing credit review and monitoring.

As a Fannie Mae DUS lender, Hunt Mortgage Group assumes part of the credit risk for loans that it originates and sells to Fannie Mae. In return, Fannie Mae delegates Hunt Mortgage Group more authority when making a multifamily mortgage to a prospective borrower. Approved lenders can underwrite, close, deliver, and service loans on Fannie Mae multifamily properties while typically retaining one-third of the credit risk on every loan.
