Fannie Mae's Delegated Underwriting and Servicing Product (DUS)

Hunt Mortgage Group is one of a few select groups of lenders approved under Fannie Mae’s Delegated Underwriting and Servicing product (DUS). DUS is a unique financing model that relies on three important principles; leveraging private capital, aligning interests through risk sharing, and providing superior asset management.

Standard industry practice is for a loan purchaser or guarantor to underwrite or re-underwrite each loan before making a decision to purchase or guaranty it. Under the Multifamily model, designated DUS lenders are authorized by Fannie Mae to acquire multifamily loans. The loans must be underwritten, originated and serviced according to standards and regulations established by Fannie Mae for multifamily properties.

DUS financing is a shared-risk model; approved lenders will retain a portion of the underlying credits risk of the loans they sell to Fannie Mae. As a result, both the borrower and lender will have a stake in each loan’s performance. As an approved Fannie Mae DUS lender, Hunt Mortgage Group adheres to rigorous credit and underwriting standards and submits to Fannie Mae’s ongoing credit review and financial monitoring. Hunt underwrites, closes, delivers, and services loans on Fannie Mae multifamily apartment properties and typically retains one-third of the risk on every loan. As an approved lender, Hunt is also approved to close and deliver most loans without pre-view, which allow us to serve our clients more efficiently.
